Scotland secured their place in the finals as the best runners-up – the team with the best record against the sides first and third in their second qualifying group – The 2010 edition in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is the third occasion Scotland have reached the final tournament of the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship.

First qualifying round: Northern Ireland 2-0, Bulgaria 5-1, Italy 0-2 (Group 4 runners-up)
Second qualifying round: Denmark 2-1, Netherlands 0-0, Finland 3-1 (Group 5 runners-up)
Scotland have never gone beyond the group stage and reached the finals as best runners-up but coach Shelley Kerr says "anything is possible" as she looks ahead to a tough section.
Scotland qualified for the UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship finals as best runners-up and, having bowed out after the group stage in their two previous finals, they will arrive in Skopje as massive underdogs. A tough group featuring holders England (24 May 2010), three-time winners Germany (27 May 2010) and 2008 champions Italy (30 May 2010) confirm the enormity of the task Scotland face, but coach Shelley Kerr says:-
"Anything is possible. I'm very proud and absolutely thrilled to be working with such a talented group of players. It's an amazing achievement [to get to the finals] and that's down to the hard work, dedication, hunger and desire of the players and staff, so everyone involved is very excited. I have been working with this group of players for just over a year and they have developed and progressed so much, they have such belief and trust in each other and these are very good qualities to have. I'm very proud of their achievements to date and reaching the finals has raised the profile of the women's game in Scotland yet again.
When you get down to the last eight there are no easy games. We knew we would be in a competitive group no matter how the draw panned out. Anything is possible. We've earned our place at the finals and we've got a strong, settled squad that has shown genuine growth and development throughout this tournament. We're under no illusions about how challenging these games will be, but it's very exciting to be playing against the top teams.
No doubt we'll be seen as underdogs because we qualified as the best runners-up, but that's not our mindset. We've earned our place; we're there on merit and we're looking forward to getting out to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. We know what we're up against now and it's all about our final preparations. Anything is possible.”

| SCOTTISH WOMENS PREMIER LEAGUE SPARTANS 2 HIBERNIAN 3 |
|
16 May 2010
Spartans went down to Hibernian at the Academy today, Hibernian had lady luck to thank for three fortuitous goals in an even first half, the first was an OG when a corner kick cannoned off Spartan's Rooney. The second was a cross come shot from Cunningham from a position wide right which nestled in the top corner of Jo Hutchison's goal.
The third came courtesy of the linesman allowing McWhinnie

to play on from an offside position, finding herself one on one with Hutcheson and duly sliding the ball into the net.
Spartans were left with a mountain to climb in the second half and this they almost did, dominating proceedings and scoring through a great strike from Barry and a cool finish from Ewens. Hibs had Lynn in goal to thank for the points touching a Barry free-kick on to the post and making several great saves during the match.

8 May 2010
The league fixture between Spartans and Heart of Midlothian started with an evenly fought ten minutes. Spartans defence worked hard until on 17 minutes they started an attack that ended in them being awarded a free kick. Megan Mitchell took a great free kick, striking the ball into the top corner of the net. Just before half time Hearts scored from a corner to equalise, making the half time score 1-1.
In the second half Spartans midfield had most of the play. Spartans best move started with Caitlin Hall and ended with Olivia Aitchison going on a 20 metre run before shooting into the bottom corner of the net.
The score remained the same until full time giving Spartans a 2-1 win.

| SCOTTISH WOMENS PREMIER LEAGUE CUP FINAL CELTIC 4 SPARTANS 1 |
 |
12 May 2010
Spartans were beaten by Celtic 4 – 1 in the League Cup Final at the Academy tonight in front of a crowd of over 500. Celtic's Jo Love scored after 25 minutes and Christie Murray made it two just before the break. A third early in the second half, a second for Murray was critical before the fourth came from Love midway through the second half. Claire Crosbie pulled one back after 85 minutes as Spartans had their best spell of the game. Celtic were deserved winners. While we looked dangerous going forward Celtic were physically stronger and with a bit more experience throughout their team, controlled spells of the game. Celtic were rightly delighted at the end of the match to have lifted their first piece of silverware in their fourth season of competition.

| SCOTTISH WOMENS PREMIER LEAGUE SPARTANS 4 BOROUGHMUIR 2 |
 |
05 May 2010
Spartans entertained Boroughmuir Thistle tonight at the Academy and a win moved them into third place in the league as Rangers went down to Hibs in tonights other game. In the first few minutes Spartans created a couple of chances before Boroughmuir in their first attack of the game got in behind the Spartans defence, Montgomery released Stewart for an easy finish with only 5 mins on the clock. Spartans continued to
probe the Boroughmuir defence
but often the final ball let them down, until the 37th minute when Barry unleashed a terrific shot past Livingstone in the Boro goal. Spartans started the second half brightly and took the game to their opponents. Firstly Hamill broke down the left and fired across the keeper into the far corner before grabbing her second from inside the six yard box, Barry then scored in similar fashion to strike partner Hamill's first to secure the points. Credit to the hard working Boroughmuir who grabbed a consolation with two minutes remaining when Marshall struck a powerful shot past Harrison.

| SCOTTISH WOMENS PREMIER LEAGUE SPARTANS 2 DUNDEE UNITED 1 |
 |
02 May 2010
Spartans welcomed Dundee United to the Academy today for their first league meeting of the season. Spartans started well but ten minutes into the game United were awarded a corner which was clearly a bye kick however as often happens when strange decisions are made, Dundee United's Tammy Harkin scored from a header from the resultant corner to take the lead.
Spartans had passed up several chances before scoring the equaliser from a Claire Crosbie header on twenty minutes before taking the lead in the thirty-fifth minute from a Hayley Lauder strike. Spartans should have been well ahead at half-time however the second half was a much closer affair with no further scoring. Spartans had Rachel Harrison to thank for a tremendous save in the closing minutes from a low driven shot, which she dived full length to tip round the post.

Spartans U13 Girls turn in a good second half to win through to the second round of the Scottish Cup. |
|
01 May 2010
Spartans U13 Girls faced Drumchapel Amateur Reds in the first round of the Scottish Cup at the Academy on Saturday morning.
The visiting team started brightly and enjoyed a lot of attacking pressure. However, the home defence managed the threats well but failed to make any progress up front. In a strong wind the ball was spending too much time in the air and Spartans, although containing the opposition didn't manage to get the ball under control and make any possession count. At half time the score was 0 - 0.
Early in the second half Drumchapel were awarded a free kick on the left and their striker shot hard and low into the far corner of the goal. The shot was worthy of a goal and reward for the hard work the visiting team were putting into the game. Going one down seemed to be the motivation Spartans needed to finally begin to pass the ball and make more opportunities going forward.
A good move in midfield finished with a pass to Olivia Aitchison who slotted the ball into the net. Drumchapel were always pushing forward and never gave up, but Spartans, having found the net once, continued to put together passing moves and went on to score two more goals from close range by Caitlin Hall and Megan Casey and a fourth, a cool side step and pass into the net by Chloe Gilhooley.
The final score of a match that was played in great spirit was Spartans 4, Drumchapel Amateur Reds 1.
Final word goes to the referee, Willie MacKenzie whose positive performance was praised by both teams coaching staff and spectators.
Spartans squad: Cummings, Ness, Robertson, Mitchell, Hume, Gilhooley, Casey, Hall, Aitchison.
