Helen Lyon from Spartans B was presented with her SWF 2nd Division East Player of the Month award for June,  by Walter McGill, Chairperson of Spartans FC (Women & Girl’s)

Helen player of the month for June

Mikey De Angelis Spartans B Team Coach said, “Helen's award is very well deserved. It shows that she is beginning to reap the rewards from the hard work and endeavour displayed on match day and at training. I am sure there is much more to come during the second half of the season. Helen’s award is also representative of how well the team as a whole are improving, owing her success in front of goal to excellent build up play and the contribution of her teammates. One of the most explosive strikers in this league. I fully expect her to continue to add to her goal tally in the second half of the season. Well done Helen, a great achievement.”

However, Spartans recovered well and had a spell of dominance but unlike their opponents they could not make their pressure count. Helen Lyons came close twice as did Anne Smollett and Laura McRitchie, but they could not equalise.

SCOTTISH WOMEN'S SECOND DIVISION: FORFAR1 SPARTANS B 3

23 January 2011

SPARTANS B

The start of the season is always a big game and both teams wanted to get off to a good start in their opening fixture. We had failed to win in pre season but an excellent second half performance against Raith in our final pre season friendly gave us a great boost of confidence before the tie with Forfar.

We got off to the best start possible, by opening the scoring within five minutes. Great work from Maggie Donald on the right hand side of the midfield allowed her time within the penalty area before her attempted cut back was bashed off the legs of the oncoming Anne Smollett by Forfar defender Emily Phillips. The ball spun in to the far corner of the net leaving Jodie Fyffe in the Forfar goal stranded.

23 January 2011

SPARTANS B

A GOOD START

Spartans FC Women's B team kicked off their pre season run of fixtures with an impressive performance away to Killwinning Ladies.

Spartans had three new trialists named in the squad and with a few regular first team players missing, coaches Mikey De Angelis and Gordon Lyons were looking forward to seeing the new girls in action.

Spartans started the game nervously, whereas Kilwinning started brightly however, the defensive work the Spartans Girls had been working on at training was already paying off. Spartans were happy to let Kilwinning have ball and were working well as a rigid, defensive unit. Read More..................
