Dunfermline AFC Ladies 2

Spartans Ladies C   1

After 17 minutes Dunfermline took advantage of an injury to stand in keeper Bina Watson when they lobbed her for the first goal.

Spartans attacked straight from the restart and player of the match Becky Galbraith brought out a great finger tip save from the opposition keeper onto the crossbar.

Bina Watson could not continue due to her earlier injury and was replaced by Natasha ( Gabby) Robins. Against the run of play Dunfermline scored - a long through ball fell perfectly at the feet of the Dunfermline attacker who at the second attempt beat goalkeeper Natasha Robins.

Spartans were determined to get right back into the game with great passing and movement from back to front  they continued to test Dunfermline in all area's of the pitch.

Spartans persistence eventually paid off with a great ball to Becky Galbraith who used her blistering pace to easily beat the Dunfermline defence and the keeper before slotting the ball into the bottom corner to make the score 2-1.

Spartans again fell foul to injury and Iona Campbell had to leave the field to be replaced by Claire McEwan shortly before half time.

Half-time score Dunfermline 2 Spartans C 1.

Spartans dominated the second half creating many chances to equalise largely helped, by the exceptional performance of on form striker Becky Galbraith, however despite the continued pressure were foiled by some accomplished goalkeeping and near misses. Dunfermline become increasingly frustrated due to the mounting pressure from Spartans and this was evident when the ball was cleared out of play by an opposing defender and the advancing goalkeeper caught Striker Becky Galbraith late

five yards outside her box. How the keeper avoided a red card was incredible. After treatment Becky got back on her feet to cause the defence more problems. The best chance of a goal in the second half fell to Spartans with Becky Galbraith again involved in the action beating two defenders and almost slotting the ball through the onrushing goalkeepers

legs for the equaliser. Unfortunately Spartans luck was out as the ball come off the goalkeeper inner thigh and headed just past the post.

Final Score Dunfermline 2 Spartans C 1

A great team performance today. To come away without a point was disappointing, however many positives can be taken from the game.

The match flowed from end to end throughout and was a credit to all involved and to ladies football as a whole.
