Vale of Clyde LFC v Kilmarnock - Premier League - Sunday 13th. April 2008

Killie win 6-0 away to Vale of Clyde!

FC Kilmarnock Ladies travelled to Fullerton Park to face Vale of Clyde Ladies today looking to bounce back after last weeks disappointing result and performance. Killie were able to welcome back Club Captain Tracy Burns to the starting line up, along with Kirsty McLaughlin and Jill Forsyth.

Kilmarnock started the match well with the team playing good passing football, that was a joy to watch. The only downfall to all the early possession was that chances were going a begging with poor finishes that were going either high over the bar or wide. Early shots from Toni Mason, Kirsty McLaughlin, Claire McCombe, Sharon Hughes and Jo Cooper all failing to hit the back of the net, but Killie were chapping at the door.

The breakthrough came after 15 minutes when Toni Mason made a great run into the box to a through ball from Kirsty McLaughlin after a neat one two, only to be taken out by the Vale of Clyde keeper which gave the Referee no option but to point to the spot. Up stepped Jo Cooper, who stuck the ball hard and high to the keepers right leaving her no chance. Vale Of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 1.

Kirsty McLaughlin tested the Keeper again from distance, but again Killie failed to hit the back of the net. It did not take too long for goal number two to arrive as Great work down the left hand side from Hughes, Quinn and L. Cooper found Toni Mason who done well to create space in the box to cut the ball back to Claire McCombe who made no mistake firing the ball into the bottom corner. Vale of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 2.

The Killie defence were excellent all 1st half in playing passes out to the midfield who would then take players on and create chances. Shooting was however letting the side down, but Toni Mason made no mistake from outside the area from 20 yards out when she it a right footed shot hard and high past the helpless Vale of Clyde keeper for Kilmarnock’s 3rd of the match. Vale of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 3.

Half Time: Vale of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 3.

Kilmarnock were keen to start the second half the way they did the first, looking to build on their first half performance. No changes were made during the interval, but the message at half time was to continue to keep the ball and look to go forward more to create more chances and to show more composure in front of goal.

Second half saw Killie,s performance go up another level as they were by now, dominating the game and the fourth goal came after 57 minutes when a well worked corner saw Toni Mason get onto the end of a fantastic corner in from Kirsty McLaughlin to make it four nil in Killie’s Favour and give her her 2nd goal of the game. Vale of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 4.

Two minutes later Sharon Hughes almost made it five when she hit the post from inside a busy 18 yard box, but it came off the post and luckily in to the Vale of Clyde keepers arms. Killie did not wait long for goal number five though as Laura Cooper found herself one on one with the keeper for the second time in this match and this time made no mistake in putting it away. Vale of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 5.

At the back Jill Forsyth , arguably Killies best player on the day, Julie Smith, Tracy Burns and Sharon Hughes were playing terrific passing football that rubbed off onto the rest of the team. As on the flanks Chloe Quinn and Jo Cooper were causing problems with some excellent runs creating opportunities for the rest of the team.

The final goal of the match came when Laura Cooper got onto the end of a great cross in by Jo Cooper to get her 2nd of the match to make it Vale of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 6. Laura Ferguson came on to replace the hard working teenage striker a minute later, with her sister Caryn also coming on late on to replace the industrious Claire McCombe. Toni Mason almost got her hat trick late on, but it just went past the post to her dismay as she had her eyes on the match ball.

Final Score: Vale of Clyde Ladies 0, FC Kilmarnock Ladies 6.

A delighted FC Kilmarnock Ladies Manager Robert Connelly said afterwards “I am really happy with everyone of the girls today, as the performance was excellent and the 3 points are always good to get. After last week we needed to respond and we did that today through a lot of hard work, as I felt we dominated this match and created a lot of chances. Fair enough we did not convert a lot of them, but that gives us something to work on before our next match. I would like to single out one player in particular today, Jill Forsyth who came in and had a great game, which gives me food for thought as I should have 3 more players available to me next week as players are recovering from injuries. As she linked in well with the defence and midfield and never gave away possession. I would love to see the stats on possession today, as i am sure it would very high in our favour. We will all go away and enjoy this result, but its back to the grind on Tuesday again as we need to continue in the same manner next week at home to Forfar.”
