Vale of Clyde LFC v Forfar Farmington Ladies - Premier League - Sunday 25th. November 2007

Vale of Clyde Ladies 2     ---   Forfar Farmington Ladies 6

Forfar Ladies travelled to Glasgow to meet bottom of the table Clyde and came away comfortable victors.

Despite the heavy pitch and some dubious heavy tackles Forfar managed to move the ball freely and were well on top throughout the match.

Forfar took the lead in the ninth minute when Lynn Duncan curled a fine free kick into the top right hand corner. Joanna Collier and Nicola Davidson were winning the midfield battles; Duncan’s surging runs and the clever interplay between Marta Stachowska and Jane McFarlane were tormenting an increasingly frustrated Clyde defence.  A series of cautions and bookings peppered the first half as the late tackles came flying in; all credit to Forfar that they continued to play football as the referee struggled to keep a lid on things.

On the half hour Claire Galloway met a neat cross from Kim Thomson and looked destined to score with a powerful header only to be denied by a brilliant save from Clyde goalkeeper Alison Smith.
McFarlane made it 2-0 shortly after, rounding the keeper after some good interplay involving half the team.

Shortly before half time Duncan scored her second and Forfar’s third, just reward for the dominance shown in every area of the pitch.  The game was effectively over when McFarlane bundled the ball over the line from a corner in the 53rd minute making it 4-0.

Clyde inevitably were reduced to ten players when the referee finally lost patience with the home side, sending the half time sub off after only 13 minutes on the pitch.

Thomson came close just firing over the bar from the edge of the area shortly before 18 year old Duncan completed her first hat trick for the club when she ran on to a neat flick on by Stachowska to slot past the Clyde keeper.

With the game won Forfar then preceded to give away two goals, the sloppy manner in which the goals were conceded, both direct from free kicks were the only blemishes in an otherwise excellent performance and a reminder to remain switched on regardless of the score.

Order was restored when Forfar made it six, Kelly Menzies with some tidy football found Duncan out wide who crossed perfectly for Caren Webster to add her name to the score sheet. Joanna Collier who had an outstanding game in midfield, coping comfortably with the robust nature of Clyde’s game, came close to making it seven when her shot just went wide in the dying moments.
