JULIE FLEETING'S 100TH INTERNATIONAL GOAL IN WIN AGAINST SLOVAKIA
Saturday, 27 Oct 2007
Scotland Women’s National team have just beaten Slovakia 3-0 this afternoon in a crucial European Championship qualifier at NTC Senec, Slovakia.
Scotland got off to the best possible start with a goal in the 2nd minute for Shelley Kerr, shortly followed by another in the 16th minute by another of Scotland’s most long-standing players, Pauline Hamill.
Going into the second half 2 goals up gave Scotland the confidence they needed to create many chances and after good attacking play, Scotland Captain Julie Fleeting scored her 100th goal for Scotland.
Scotland coach Anna Signeul commented on the game:
‘We are delighted with the scoreline, we played really good football and we created many chances and scored 3 great goals. Slovakia is a good team, they are strong and physical, they had some great opportunities but Gemma Fay was very confident in goals and the whole team put in 100%.’
Currently Scotland sit third in Group 5 in front of Portugal and Denmark and behind leaders Ukraine and Slovakia.
After the match Julie Fleeting was presented with a pair of golden boots by her boot Sponsor, Nomis. The Scottish FA have plans of their own to commemorate this momentous achievement with a presentation at the Scotland v Italy match on 17 November at Hampden.
Scotland’s next qualifier is against Denmark on Wednesday 31 October at McDiarmid Park, Perth, kick-off 7pm.
The match against Denmark is another milestone for Julie Fleeting, as it will be her 100th international appearance. To commemorate her achievement there will be a special presentation prior to the match by Scottish FA Chief Executive Gordon Smith.
