Scotland v Sweden u17's ... 19th. September 2007 - McDiarmid Park - Perth


SCOTLAND GIRLS' UNDER 17S DRAW WITH SWEDEN

Scotland Girls’ Under 17s drew with Sweden 0-0 tonight at McDiarmid Park, watched on by a well attended crowd of Scotland fans.

The Swedish side put most of the pressure on in the first half with several chances of goal, however the Scots played well defensively and Scotland goal keeper Alannah Chatham ensured nothing got passed her.

The second half saw the Scots pushing forward in attack and Scotland had several excellent chances of goal most notable was by Kim Borthwick in the 92nd minute from 30 yards, skimming the cross bar.

The match is part of both teams preparation for the first ever Women’s Under 17 Championship competition. Scotland has been drawn with Northern Ireland, Hungary and hosts Croatia.

The first qualifying round will begin in October and the second qualifying round will take place in early spring 2008, with a final round of four teams in May 2008 in one of the qualified countries.

The new competition will provide three slots in the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, another inaugural event which will take place in New Zealand.

SCOTLAND U17 GIRLS’ PREPARE FOR FIRST EVER

UEFA WOMEN’S U17 CHAMPIONSHIP


Scotland Under 17 Girls’ are to play Sweden on Wednesday 19 September at McDiarmid Park, Perth, kick-off 7pm (Cash gate; £3 / £1 concessions).

The match is part of both teams preparation for the first ever Women’s Under 17 Championship competition. Scotland has been drawn with Northern Ireland, Hungary and hosts Croatia.

The first qualifying round will begin in October and the second qualifying round will take place in early spring 2008, with a final round of four teams in May 2008 in one of the qualified countries.

Under 17 Coach Tony Gervais has announced the squad and commented on the match against Sweden:

‘The Under 17’s are a relatively new team, selected from trials which took place in August this year. It will be a big challenge to play a team such as Sweden and the match will be invaluable for the team on the run up to the UEFA competition.’
