DEFEAT FOR WOMEN'S UNDER 19s
Sunday, 15 Apr 2007

Scotland women's Under 19s lost their final match in the UEFA qualifying group this afternoon, going down 3-0 to hosts Germany, who had already ensured qualification before the match started.

In front of a healthy crowd over over two thousand in Lubeck, the Germans struck early through Lisa Schwab in four minutes. But the Scots fought hard to keep the game alive, and there was never any question of a repeat of last year's 7-0 drubbing.

It was not until the last ten minutes that Germany made sure of victory. A needless penalty in 82 minutes was converted by Stephanie Goddard, and Isabel Kershowski scored with a free kick in stoppage time.

Germany go to the finals as group winners, while Hungary were second, Scotland third with two points, and Sweden last with one point.

NO GOALS FOR UNDER 19s

Thursday, 12 Apr 2007

Scotland women Under 19s drew the second match of their UEFA qualification group, 0-0 with Sweden this afternoon.

Having already drawn with Hungary on Tuesday, the Scots had to win today in Budelsdorf to maintain any chance of qualifying. However, despite having the better of the play on a glorious day, the women were unable to find the back of the net.

The result means that group hosts Germany could win the group with a game to spare, if they defeat Hungary later this evening. That would give them six points, while Scotland have only two.

Scotland conclude their group against Germany on Sunday in Lubeck.

EXCITING DRAW FOR WOMEN'S UNDER 19s

Tuesday 10 Apr 2007

Scotland women's Under 19 team were held to a 3-3 draw by Hungary in the opening match of their UEFA U19 championship group this afternoon, losing a cruel goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

It looked good for Scotland in the early stages, as Hayley Cunningham put the team in front after just three minutes, and Jennifer Beattie headed in a corner in 24 minutes to make it 2-0.

However, Hungary came back strongly after the break and equalised with two goals midway through the half from Zsanett Jakabfi and Szabina Talosi. Scotland thought the game was won when Ruesha Littlejohn shot home from inside the box in the 88th minute, but deep into stoppage time Erika Szuh equalised from a corner to make it all square.

Scotland next face Sweden on Thursday afternoon, with the final game coming against group hosts Germany on Sunday

Scotland Head Coach Tony Gervaise and his Young Guns face a tough task in the next round in this season's top Under-19 competition. Under the guidance of Coach Gervaise, Scotland's Head of Youth Development has brought through the conveyor belt of talent in recent years, and in doing so, has hightened the awareness of the women's game in Scotland. However, the Scotland supremo will face an acid test in the next round.

Scotland Women's Under 19 side have the toughest possible route to the UEFA finals after this week's draw for the second qualifying round.

They must travel to face the competition title holders, Germany, along with Sweden and Hungary in a group where only the winners progress to the finals in Iceland next summer. The group will be hosted by Germany from 10-15 April, with the finals from 18-29 July.

Scotland reached the second round with a 100 per cent record in the first qualifying round, but will find it much tougher this time.
