U17 EASTER TOURNAMENT PLAY-OFFS
5th. Place
Scotland
1 - 2 Republic of Ireland

Scotland’s team consisted of players mostly a year older than the Irish. They hit Ireland on the counter-attack to break the deadlock with 20 minutes gone through a thunderous shot past goalkeeper, Ashling Dyer, reports FAI.

Ireland persevered with their controlled passing style of play and got back into the game after 55 minutes with a clinical finish by Gillian McDonald. The Dundalk midfielder was pushed up into attack for the second half and had a role to play in both Irish goals.

Ireland’s second strike arrived on 70 minutes following an adventurous run down the left flank by Julianne Russell. Her cross was connected with by McDonald towards goal and, although the Scottish ‘keeper saved the effort, Maria Harrington followed in to convert the rebound.

Ireland coach, John Morris-Burke complimented his players work-rate and character: “This tournament has been a real learning experience for the players but they can be pleased with the way they finished off the week with a well-deserved win.

“We brought a very young team here with us because we’re starting to build up the squad. Scotland played well but we were the better side in the second half and I’m delighted by the manner of the win.

“Ashling Dyer played fantastic in goal for us, Niamh Mulcahy and Emer Flatley gave a commanding display in defence and Amanda Parkes was exceptional in the midfield. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for more from the group of players.”

3rd. Place
USA
2 - 1 Russia

1st. Place
Netherlands
1 - 1 England (after AET - England won 4-3 on penalties)

The final of the Under-17 tournament in the Netherlands, saw England edge out the hosts on penalties to take first place. Scores were level at full-time, with no addition to the score in extra-time, despite England having a penalty claim turned down. Toni Duggan scored for England in the 21st minute, with Lianne de Vries equalising from the penalty spot after 54 minutes, after a foul on the dangerous Renate Jansen.

When in came to penalties, the Dutch got off to a bad start, missing their first, England failed with their fourth but a second miss by the hosts proved decisive.

In the other play-off games, the USA finished third with a 2-1 defeat of Russia, whilst the Republic of Ireland took fifth spot, sending Scotland to a 2-1 reverse.

u17 National Team - Six Nations Tournament - Netherlands

England 3 - 3 Scotland - England won 4-3 on penalties

England Women's U17s had a very happy Easter, as they defended the six nation tournament title they won on home soil twelve months ago, reports TheFA.com.

England, Holland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, Russia and the USA travelled to Holland to take part, and Lois Fidler's squad which featured some very inexperienced players, as well as players looking to progress to the U19s came home with the silverware.

After arriving, The Three Lions took on USA in a training match and after going a goal down, won the game 2-1, perfect preparation for three games in four days.

First up were Scotland, and England raced into a two goal lead with a brace from Sarah Wiltshire of Arsenal either side of half-time. Scotland pulled a goal back before Everton's Toni Duggan then got her name on the scoresheet but two late goals conceeded from set plays saw the match end 3-3.

However, in order to decide which two teams would progress to the final if points were level, the two sides fought out a penalty shoot-out, with Gilly Flaherty netting the winner, with England winning the shoot-out 4-3.

"The penalty shoot-out again was something you can't recreate in training and the girls decided amongst themselves who would take them.
