Sunday March 23rd
UEFA WOMEN'S U17 CHAMPIONSHIP
2ND QUALIFYING ROUND GROUP 2
France 1-0 Scotland
Republic of Ireland 1-0 NorwaySCOTLAND GIRLS' U17 NARROWLY MISS OUT ON EURO FINALS
Group hosts France won the decisive fixture with Scotland, to become the first nation to qualify for the inaugural UEFA U17 Championship finals, which will be held in Switzerland this May, with a 1-0 defeat of Scotland in Canet-en-Roussillon.
If Scotland were to emulate the feat of their male U17 counterparts on Saturday evening, they needed to win today's second qualifying round Group 2 decider as they trailed France on goal difference at kick-off – Scotland had beaten the Republic of Ireland and Norway 1-0 while the home side had recorded 2-0 winning margins in their previous matches. But instead it was France who claimed the only goal when Inès Jaurena crossed for Pauline Crammer to turn the ball in on the hour mark. Scotland put up a brave performance and played the last 20 minutes of the match with 10 players due to injuries but could not find a goal..
Ireland finished third in the group after Amy Ryan's goal gave them victory against Norway.

Thomson strikes again !!
Scotland defeated Norway 1-0 in their second match in the UEFA Championship qualifying series in Canet-en-Roussillon. Once again Emily Thomson (above) was their goal hero, giving her side the points with the only goal of the match in the 82nd minute. Scotland go into the last round of their Group 2 qualifiers for the inaugural UEFA Women's U17 Championship.
Therefore Scotland will take on group hosts France in their final match in Canet-en- Roussillon with both sides on maximum points, although the Scots will need a victory as France have a superior goal difference going into the match. Only the group winners will qualify for the Finals, which are being held in Nyon, Switzerland from 20-23 May.

Thomson clincher
Scotland defeated the Republic of Ireland 1-0 in their opening match in the UEFA Championship qualifying series in at the Stade Jean Laffon in Perpignan.
Scotland were physically the stronger team and were buoyed by a first-half lead that put them in control of the game.
The only goal came after 26 minutes, when following up on an attempted clearance, a goalmouth scramble saw Emily Thomson force the ball home for the Scots.
The Irish responded very strongly after half-time but were left frustrated at Stella Maris and Amy Ryan's efforts both being disallowed.

Ireland Manager, Noel King, said:
“We didn’t start very well at all and we may have been lucky to be going in at the break at just one goal down.
"The girls responded marvellously in the second half - the Scottish side were big and strong but the girls challenged for everything and they really pushed hard for the equaliser in the closing minutes.
“I would have hoped that we could have started the game with the same purpose that we finished the game, I feel that the goal we conceded had a strong suspicion of offside and to have two goals at the other end disallowed was disappointing.
"This team have taken massive strides forward; we are competing with some of the strongest sides in Europe and I feel that we have to be qualifying for the Elite Qualifying phases year-in and year-out to gain that experience.
"Our long term plans are about developing the game at this level and I hope that in the near future we will be strong contenders and not just participants.”
In the other group fixture, France were 2-0 winners over Norway. Kelly Perdrizet and Marine Augis scored the goals in the first-half.
Sixteen of the original 40 entrants are still in the running to reach the finals, and will compete in four second qualifying round mini-tournaments.
In the Final tournament in Nyon, the top three finishers will qualify for the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand from 28 October to 16 November 2008.
