SCOTLAND
WOMEN U19’s GO THROUGH TOP OF THEIR GROUP IN UEFA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
- Wednesday, 18 Oct 2006
Although Scotland
were already through to the next stage of the competition after beating
Slovenia and Israel, the win against Russia means that they will go through
top of their Group.
 |
The action for Scotland kicked off
early in the proceedings with a goal from Clare Docherty in the 5th minute
and Scotland went into the second half ahead 2-0 after a goal from Jennifer
Beattie in the 30th minute. Scotland defended well and maintained focus
but Russia failed to match Scotland on goals, after only managing to score
one goal from Russian player Stakhovskaya in the 85th minute.

 |
Scotland U19
Coach Tony Gervaise is very proud of the young teams performance against
a strong Russian team and is looking forward to the next stage of the competition
and hopes Scotland will reach the finals in Iceland next year.

The
UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship finals group stage consists

the semi-finals. If teams are level on points, they are split by (a) points
gained in group matches between the teams in question (b) goals scored
in group matches between the teams (c) overall goal difference (d) overall
goals scored (e) Fair Play ranking (f) drawing of lots. If two teams are
dead level before they meet in their last group fixtures and draw, a penalty
