RAITH ROVERS v ABERDEEN - S.W.P.L. - Sunday 5th. October 2008
Raith Rovers 4 - Aberdeen Ladies 2
Aberdeen pushed for the first few minutes creating the first chance, Wright bursting forward onto a long ball but Raith’s Halliday did enough to quell the attack. Raith replied via a corner which fell to Templeton who fired wide.
Both sides were struggling to play good football on the heavy slippy surface. A free kick in from S Scott was headed over the bar from close range by Wright and a spell of pressure was interrupted as Davies burst forward for Raith, forcing Dons keeper Johnston to parry for a corner. Played to the back post Fitzpatrick cleared high, Djahansouzi and Thomson for Raith both jumped and the referee awarded a penalty to the Rovers, apparently for a push which SCOTT converted for the home side.
Raith made it two a couple of minutes later Bennett breaking forward, crossing in for TEMPLETON to finish from close range.
Aberdeen had a chance to get one back on 25 minutes, Wright breaking onto a long ball but shot straight at the keeper. The Dons pushed forward with some good passing play but the home side were hustling well and first to most fifty fifty balls.
Just on half time Aberdeen got one back, S. Scott playing wide to Taylor who picked out WRIGHT with a long pass forward and this time she placed the ball past the Raith stopper.
Half Time :- Raith 2 – Aberdeen 1
Raith scored again four minutes into the half, DAVIES collecting and charging forward to strike and hit the net. Minutes later Taylor slipped in the Raith half allowing McKenzie space to get forward unchallenged, slipping a pass into the box which was struck. Keeper Johnstone spilled the save and TEMPLETON finished from close range.
Aberdeen squandered chances as first Hamill broke forward shooting from the edge of the box but it went over the bar and a free kick in from wide right volleyed over the bar by Wright.
Still mainly Aberdeen at this point with a S.Scott 30 yard effort easily held before Raith countered, Bennett getting on the end of a cross but Taylor did enough put her off. The Dons reshuffled, McQueen replacing Djahansouzi and Mackenzie on for Martin. Small and Wright combined to give Hamill an attempt and on 41 minutes The Reds got one back with a bit of luck. Triallist Gibson laying off for Taylor and from a miss kick forward space was made for SMALL to collect then lob the keeper.
