Dons Denied Win

Queen’s Park LFC 4 – Aberdeen FC Ladies 4

Aberdeen travelled to Glasgow on Sunday looking to improve on the last outing against Queen’s park in the semi of the Premier Cup where they came off second best.

Aberdeen were first on the attack, Corsie winging up the right and crossing but just behind the approaching Martin and S.Scott. At the other end Queen’s Park were sending long balls to Beattie and McCulloch but the Dons defence were coping well.

Then a goal at either end in a two minute spell, BEATTIE opening for the home side turning and firing from the edge of the box on 15 minutes and from the kick off Aberdeen’s S.SCOTT sending a looping shot over the keeper from 25 yards a minute later.

Both teams pressed, Aberdeen’s S.Scott testing the keeper again with a high shot this time tipped over the bar and the home side testing the Reds defence winning a couple of corners then a testing long pass to McCulloch but she handled conceding a foul.

The Dons went ahead on 32 minutes, Corsie doing some good work on the right to make space before crossing into WRIGHT who slipped it past the keeper.

The game was fairly even both teams playing to their strengths with Aberdeen passing better and Queen’s using their strength. Queen's had a chance from a long ball to Beattie. Taylor intercepted, winning the header but it fell to her feet allowing Beattie a chance to shoot but well wide.

Half Time Queen’s Park 1 Aberdeen 2

Queens pushed from the kick off winning a corner early but Aberdeen cleared up easily then won a free kick. Played short to Martin to have a go but Queen’s McDonald headed it high before Aberdeen gave away a foul.

The Spiders pushed again committing themselves but Corsie won the ball back and charged forward up the wing picking out WRIGHT with a pass and she strode forward and chipped the keeper on 51 minutes.

Aberdeen made it four nine minutes later, Corsie bursting into the middle and firing in a shot, the keeper blocked and WRIGHT picked up the scraps and lifted it high over Queen’s keeper Laggan.

Queens pressed again, Aberdeen filtering back allowing the home side into midfield, McDonald firing a shot from well out for keeper Chatham to block. Then an early ball into McCulloch from Handley created a chance but Aberdeen continued to cover well.

Queen’s were pressing harder pushing the visitors back more McMillan taking it to the line and forcing a corner off Murray. Met at the front post by Hamill Aberdeen then broke via Corsie. Stirling looked for the pass on the overlap but Ferguson had an excellent interception to kill off a clear threat.

A free kick from Queens was sent in, Aberdeen cleared but the home side picked up in the middle, Kirkwood finding Handley who sent a shot in low and hard for their second.

McDonald, now in midfield, was causing problems with surging runs forward at will sending in a couple of crosses then winning a corner. It was sent into mid goal and Aberdeen harried away the ball as Queens claimed it had crossed the line.

Aberdeen were still creating chances, Taylor seeking out Hamill with a long ball which she took to the left hand flag winning a foul which was headed clear for a corner but after constant pressure Queen’s equalised from a corner with 8 minutes to go, played in long and headed down and into the net.
