QUEEN PARK ON PREMIER LIST
Queens Park clinched the SWFL 1st Division title on Sunday 29th. April, and with it of course comes the chance to play in next seasons Premier League. Their 12-1 victory on 3rd bottom Dunfermline Athletic at Lesser Hampden gives them an unassailable 42 points with 4 games remaining.
Stephanie Handley racked up her 7th hat trick of the season to give her 38 goals in all competitions so far this year, with Jennifer Beattie also grabbing 3 against the Fifers. Christie Murray, also on a hot streak, grabbed yet another brace as did Cheryl McCulloch, with Nicky Black completing the scoreline. After a long road, the Spiders went top in January and have a 100% record in the League in 2007. Coach Vinny Bryson was gushing in his praise for the players. “We’ve come quite far in the 9 months we’ve been together, as there’s been a change in management and more significantly an overhaul in playing staff. The youth, vigour, enthusiasm and commitment on and off the pitch runs from 1-20 in this squad and I am so proud of each of them individually, and doubly so for their abilities as a team. We are aware of the class of opponent we will be facing next season, and we’ll plan accordingly in the summer, but for now it’s about these players and their efforts, they’ve been and are fantastic.”
