Newburgh v Lochee - Premier League - Sunday 8th. October 2006
Match ReportSubs not used Alana Marr and Cath Barlow.
Burgh were forced into one change from last weeks line up. The suspension of Laura Smith led to Dani Hamilton returning to the team in centre of defence and Donna Shaw moving across to take up the vacant slot at left back. Burgh started brightly and carved out several opportunities to score. However a combination of wasteful finishing and stout defending by the Bluebell's meant the score remained goaless. Eventually the home side went ahead following a well worked corner, Dani Stewart kept the ball alive in the box and Erica Duncan swept home the opener. Whilst Newburgh continued to control the match they had to be wary of Lochee's dangerous counter attacks. It was from one such attack that Anne Houliston punished an error strewn Burgh foray.
HALF TIME 1-1
The home side started the second half in a determined fashion and in the first minute should have scored when Ali Cassey headed wide from two yards. (yes Ali it was only 2 yards) Newburgh's patience finally paid off when Erica Duncan charged down an attemped clearance and crossed for Ali Cassey to head home. The away sides resistance appeared to be broken and it was no surprise when the score became 3-1, Erica Duncan brilliantly flicked the ball over the head the Lochee centre half and curled a magnificent left foot shot into the top corner. Di Fraser who had replaced Emma Lyons earlier pounced to make it 4-1 and ensure the points were secure. Erica Duncan completed an excellent personal performance by thundering home a twenty five yard pile driver for her hat-trick.
A good all round performance by everyone in the home side ensured victory was achieved. Burgh controlled the match, played with patience and were clinical in front of goal.
