Match Reports :-

Newburgh 1 v 1 Hamilton Accies (20th. August 2006)

Burgh kicked off the new season with a hard fought draw against a very good Hamilton side. Both teams started the game at a good tempo and chances came and went as both teams tried to make an early breakthrough.Poor finishing and some good goalkeeping kept the game scoreless, the nearest burgh came was a cross cum shot that hit the bar. HT 0-0.

In the second half Burgh started brightly and began to dominate play and looked the more likely to score, but Hamilton came back into the match and had Burgh on the rack. Burgh made some changes putting on D Stewart for Brodie, D Fraser came on for the injured A Casey, soon after E Lyons came on for K Reilly and within a minute Lyons had put Burgh ahead.

A good ball down the right was controlled by Duncan and played to Ross who fired in a great cross to the far post, it was played back across goal by Stewart and it was met by Lyons who rifled it home. The way the game had gone it looked like the first goal would be the winner but all credit to Accies who equalised when a good shot was pushed onto the bar by Williamson in the Burgh goal and with the defence appealing for offside the Accies forward knocked the loose ball home. A draw was about right but Burgh will have to improve if they are going to challange for honours this year.
