Newburgh v Forfar - Sunday 10th. September 2006

Newburgh played host to Forfar in what was always going to be a hard game. It was a tough 90 minutes for both sides with no quarter asked or given. Burgh looked sloppy right from the start as Forfar started the game at a high tempo never letting the home side settle - it was end to end with both sides trying to grab the opener.

The breakthrough went to Burgh and came from a rehearsed corner kick, good work between Ross and Gemmell allowed Ross to cross and Hamilton headed home. Burgh continued to press and make chances but their old failing was there for all to see, missing some glorious chances. Burgh doubled there advantage when good control by Stewart gave her a yard of space, and she stroked home number two. Half Time 2-0.

After some harsh words at half time Burgh came out determined to raise the tempo of the game, both sides were still committed to going forward with Burgh looking for a third that would make the game safe, while a goal for Forfar would mean there was all to play for. Burgh were still making and missing some great chances but Forfar were always dangerous. It was Burgh that scored when Ross kept a cool head when through one on one with the keeper and calmly placed the ball into the corner of the net.

All credit to Forfar who never gave up and Williamson in the Burgh goal had to make a point blank save to keep a clean sheet. Full Time 3-0.
