Lochee United v Glasgow City - Premier League - Sunday 8th. April 2007
Lochee United LFC 1 v 4 Glasgow City LFC
Glasgow City maintained there winning record in the premier league with 4 second half goals beating Lochee United by 4 goals to 1. In a first half which seen both teams have there chances, Lochee seemed the more likely to score playing downhill and with the winds at there backs.
A freak goal saw Lochee go in 1-0 up at the interval. Good pressure from Kirsty Marr resulted in a free kick for Lochee just inside the Glasgow half. A long hopeful ball into the box by Fay HUGHES was missed by everyone and the bounce was misjudged by the Glasgow keeper and the ball sailed over her head giving Lochee a deserved 1-0 lead.
H/T - Lochee 1 - 0 Glasgow
Glasgow started the second half the better team and all be it had much more of the ball and shots off target, Lochee's lead looked a comfortable one. Then on 65 minutes, a long throw into the box was flicked on by Suzanne Lappin and Jennifer CONDIE was on hand to fire the ball into the net. Glasgows second came only two minutes later. Leanne CAMPBELL was the scorer as Lochee failed to clear there lines.
Lochee despite losing the second in quick succession, seemed to come to life again and Laurie Denney was unlucky not to get a shot away after a driving run down the left wing. Then on 74 minutes, some good work by Suzanne Lappin created an opening for Jayne SOMMERVILLE who drilled a half volley from 25 yards into the top corner leaving home keeper Lynsey McKinlay with no chance. Lochee again came to life after losing the 3rd goal and a long range free kick from Fay Hughes was just over the top with the Glasgow Keeper well beaten.
Lochee were then reduced to ten after substitute Emma STEWART lashed out at a Glasgow player after giving away a free kick near the centre circle. Glasgow's fourth and final goal came in the 84th minute when a scuffed shot by Sommerville was deflected into the net by Marie GEMMELL. Lochee continued to battle but it was Glasgow who saw out the game to take the 3 points back home and keep the pressure on Hibs at the top of the table.
