 Hutchison Vale v Newburgh - Premier League - Sunday 12th. November 2006

Newburgh travelled to the capital to play Hutchison Vale in their seventh league game of the season.

There was one enforced change with Laura Smith missing out because of work commitments. This led to Clare Gemmel returning to the starting line up.

The game began with Burgh keeping Hutchie pressed in their own half and following several missed opportunities opened the scoring through a deflected Erika Duncan cross. 1-0

Despite incessant pressure from the Berry, Hutchie equalised when they were awarded a controversial penalty. Laura Williamson saved the kick but could not prevent the rebound being bundled over the line. 1-1

The pattern of play remained the same with Burgh encamped in the Vale half. The pressure was relieved when a clearance from defence led to a free kick being awarded just outside the Burgh box. With the wall in place and the taker at the ready, the ref astonishingly blew her whistle, said she had changed her mind and awarded a second penalty. Wills managed to get a hand on the ball but could not stop the ball from crossing the line. 1-2

This appeared to provoke a strong reaction from Newburgh and they were level within 60 seconds when Emma Lyons latched onto a through ball and fired home. 2-2

Ten minutes later Erika Duncan set up Leanne Ross to hit a 30 yard shot beyond the keeper to put Burgh ahead. 3-2

It was no surprise when just before half time the same duo combined and Ross finished off at the near post to increase the lead. 4-2

HALF TIME 4-2

Hutchie began the second half with 5 players across the midfield area in an attempt to strangle the game. However, Burgh continued to dominate and increased the lead when Donna Shaw netted from a well worked corner kick. 5-2

It just wasn't to be Erika Duncan's day and she could only hit the side netting after rounding the home keeper. Leanne Ross completed a memorable hat trick with a magnificent 35 yard free kick. 6-2

Again Erika was out of luck as she rounded the keeper the ball got stuck between her feet and she somehow contrived to fall over the ball with the goal at her mercy. Wave after wave of attacks were being unloaded upon the overworked home defence and the only surprise was that it took so long to add to the scoreline. Eventually Di Fraser netted from a well worked set piece for the second week running. 7-2

There was a late scare at the other end and Wills bravely saved at the feet of the oncoming striker. The ref blew shortly after to conclude a comfortable day's work for the Burgh.
