Hibs v Forfar - Premier League - Wednesday 19th. September 2007
No goalie - but Ladies win
It has been a busy week for Hibernian Ladies as they continued their fine start to the season with convincing victories over Forfar Farmington last Wednesday and Vale of Clyde on Sunday. The Hibees have a 100% record so far this season but still trail rivals Glasgow City as they have played more games.
For the visit of Forfar Farmington, Hibernian made a couple of changes as Suzanne Grant returned to the starting line up at the expense of Laura Kennedy while goalkeeper Gemma Faye was unavailable due to work commitments meaning Hibs had no recognised goalie following the departure of number two Joanna Hutcheson to Edinburgh Ladies recently. Outfield player Alison Donnelly bravely volunteered to take over the gloves for the evening.
Hibernian started the game in breathtaking fashion and carved out a number of chances as Kim Little, Pauline Hamill, Suzanne Grant and Joelle Murray all went close but it was to be twenty-five minutes before Hibs made the breakthrough. Suzanne Grant burst through into the Forfar box before being fouled and winning her side a penalty kick that was clinically dispatched by Kim Little.
Five minutes later the Edinburgh side were two goals in front as Mandy Burns gathered the ball inside her own half and strode forward before unleashing an unstoppable effort from fully thirty yards that gave the keeper no chance. Goal number three arrived just before half time when Joelle Murray passed to Kim Little inside the Hibs half and the youngster left a trail of defenders behind her before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into the empty net.
Into the second half and it was still all Hibs pressure with Forfar toiling to regain any sort of telling possession. Further chances came and went for Hibs as Suzanne Grant, Shelley Kerr, Pauline Hamill and Kim Little all went close without adding to their sides three goals.
It was surely only a matter of time before Hibs scored again and when they did it came from the boot of the prolific Kim Little, the youngster once again picked the ball up deep and drove into the box with the goalkeeper closing her down she dragged the ball back and fired an unstoppable shot into the net.
