Hamilton v Lochee - Sunday 28th. January 2007

Hamilton went into the game against Lochee looking for an important win. The previous game which ended in a 3 -2 win for Hamilton, was a hard fought game and the players knew that only the correct attitude would prevent a potential slip up.

Both teams started well and as expected Lochee fought and pressurized the home team well. Hamilton had the best chances with Beverley McLaughlin coming the closet, with the first half ending in a stalemate.

In the second half Hamilton took the game to Lochee inspired by midfielder Nicola Docherty, within ten minutes of the break she had scored, this was followed by two exceptional strikes to grab her first hat-trick of the season. Lochee to their credit did not give up and worked a couple of openings which were dealt with by the solid Hamilton defence.

With five minutes to go Beverley McLaughlin made sure of the points with a well placed shot ending the game 4-0. Overall the team played well and showed a patience in their play in breaking down the opposition, let’s hope that the team can take this form into the Forfar game.

LOCHEE FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL

Lochee United boss Mary McDonald says their sights are firmly set on one aim this season - survival in the Thompson Solicitors Premier League. Along with the other promoted club Hutchison Vale, the Dundee side have found the Premier tough going. But with lessons learned each game, Lochee are determined to be back in the new season, ready to build on that valuable experience.

“It’s all about staying in the Premier,” says McDonald. “I don’t care if we end up third bottom. “We’ve been working hard but just can’t get that ball in the net. We do have squad problems and are currently looking for a goal scorer. But confidence is a problem and when a goal is scored against us the heads go down.” McDonald says there are already positive signs - helped by the arrival of new coaches Iain Ross, the East Fife keeper, and Montrose defender Chris Tawse. “They were both players at Lochee juniors, our home ground,” says McDonald. “And when they heard our previous coach had to leave, they offered to come along. They are helping to build up confidence, so hopefully our perserverance will pay off.”
