Forfar v Vale of Clyde - Premier League - Sunday 25th. May 2008

Forfar 8   -   Vale of Clyde 0

25/05/08
Forfar ladies ended their season in the most emphatic manner recording their highest premier league score with a superb display of attacking football.

Forfar almost took the lead in the 7th minute when Jane McFarlane, playing in her last match, broke quickly before delivering a fine cross for Alana Bruce who volleyed it only to be denied by a fine save from the Clyde keeper.

Forfar took the lead in the 15th minute, Alan Bruce outpacing the defence to calmly slot the ball past the keeper. Four minutes later full back Ali McCaig, who was enjoying making runs from deep, collected a return pass and calmly picked her spot before driving home a right footed shot to make it 2-0.

Alana Bruce meeting another Jane McFarlane cross almost made it three nil when her header hit the cross bar but stayed out. Bruce played her part in Forfar's third goal when her low driven cross forced a Clyde defender to try and cut it out only to see the ball fly past her keeper.  Nicola Davidson forced the Clyde keeper to make another good save as Forfar began to totally dominate play. McFarlane, with yet another good run which left many wondering quite why she is retiring, almost made it four nil when her well delivered cross was knocked away for a corner. HT 3-0

Clyde to their credit, missing regulars through suspension, always tried to make good use of the ball but had no answer to the pace and tempo of the Forfar play.

Claire Garrett’s bullet header courtesy of yet another McFarlane cross made it 4-0. And minutes later McFarlane was finally rewarded for her selfless efforts when she knocked home a McCaig cross taking the score to 5-0.  Kim Thomson, keen to get her name on the score sheet saw a long-range effort just clear the bar. Gemma Collier, neatly chipping the keeper from out side the box, made it six in the 63rd minute.

The loudest applause of the afternoon was reserved for the withdrawal of Jane McFarlane, her contribution to Forfar Ladies football will be sorely missed in the coming seasons and whose shoes will be difficult to fill.

Forfar continued to make changes without losing any control and went seven up when Joanna Collier latched onto a neat back heel from Clare Garrett, shooting low into the left hand corner of the net.  In the 82 nd minute Tracy Brogan showing great composure made it 8-0, driving a shot over the Clyde keeper into the rook of the net.  This was a great team effort, there were 7 different scorers and solid performances from Clare Sturrock and Avril Gourlay. All of last week's frustrations against Queens Park were forgotten with this splendid performance and the barbecue following the match on such a glorious sunny day capped a great afternoon.

Forfar Farmington have often played some great football this season and even though they may not have improved their league position the quality has improved. Forfar continue to make progress and thanks must go in part to Coach Mark Nesbit whose coaching ability, dedication and enthusiasm is apparent for all to see .
