Forfar v Hamilton Academicals - Sunday 4th. February 2007
Forfar Farmington 4 v Hamilton Academicals 2Feeling aggrieved at having lost narrowly to Hamilton earlier in the season 2-1, Forfar were determined to redress matters proceeding to produce their most impressive football to date. In a game that they dominated throughout the 90 minutes only the valiant efforts of Claire Johnstone in The Hamilton goal and a few squandered chances stopped the score being doubled.
Forfar took the game to Hamilton from the start . Good work from Jane Mcfarlane Nicola Davidson and Lynn Duncan forced a series corners which Hamilton did well to defend. All Forfar’s good work however was undone in the 20th minute when Hamilton stole a goal against the run of play. Reduced to 10 players with the lively Lynn Duncan receiving treatment on the touchline Forfar were forced into giving away a free kick on the edge of the penatly area . Nicola Docherty punished the home side heading in from close range. UndeterredForfar continued to rain in shots finally breaking Hamilton's resistance just before halftime when Lynn Duncan followed up a save from Alana Bruce which the goalie couldn’t hold.
HT 1-1Forfar began the second half just as they had the first winning all the 50-50s and playing some wonderful football. They went 2-1 up in the 55th minute with Caren Webster putting the finishing touch to another excellent move involving half the team. Hamilton’s frustrated with their inability to handle the free flowing Forfar resorted to some crude late tackles that resulted in yellow cards. Caren Webster scored her second as Forfar once again ripped open the visitors defence.
With Forfar seemingly destined to score at any moment Hamilton’s Pamela Liddell collected the ball, ran across the pitch outside the 16 yard box and smacked an unstoppable shot into the corner of the goal stunning the home support. In a match that was so one-sided it was inconceivable that Forfar would not score again. They promptly did so with Caren Webster completing a second half hat trick and her second for the season.Remarkably there were no further scores much credit going to Hamilton keeper Claire Johnstone who made a fine one v one save late on from Jane McFarlane.
