FORFAR FARMINGTON LADIES v HAMILTON ACADEMICAL 0 - Sunday 1st. March 2009
Forfar Farmington Ladies 0 Hamilton Academical Ladies 0
Forfar were disappointed
not to collect all 3 points from this encounter. For long spells they dominated
possession but failed to break a stubborn Hamilton who were delighted to take
home a valuable point in the fight to remain in the Premiership.
Throughout the first half Forfar totally outplayed the visitors but a
combination of good saves, blocks by defenders and some wayward finishing meant
they had nothing to show for there efforts. Caroline Heron had a fine shot
parried by Elaine Fleming, the Hamilton keeper, who typified the back to the
wall effort of the Hamilton defence. Alana Bruce, regularly getting behind the
back four, unfortunately found her crosses either cut out by the keeper or put
behind for corners. Bruce came close with a spectacular volley from a Caren
Webster cross which narrowly passed over the crossbar.
The second half saw Hamilton come into the game in short spells and with Sarah
Crilly, their speedy striker, they had the potential to snatch a goal against
the run of play. As Forfar pressed for what seemed like the inevitable opening
goal their frustration continued to grow. Hamilton defended well; they limited
Forfar to far fewer shooting opportunities in the second half and despite Forfar
winning a number of corners they failed to take advantage. The final fifteen
minutes saw action at both ends, Bruce again came close with a shot from the
edge of the box which just went over. Crilly nearly caused the shock of the day
when in one of their rare forages into Forfar half she hit the crossbar.
Home trialist Bobbi Beveridge, who came on for the last 10 minutes, almost had a
dream debut only to see her shot hit both posts; agonisingly the stayed out.
Heron must have thought her luck had finally turned when she smashed a ferocious
goal bound shot only to see the keeper get a part of her body in the way, with
the ball bouncing off and cleared from danger. With difficult matches in the
coming weeks against very strong opposition Forfar will be kicking themselves
that they missed this opportunity to put some space between themselves and the
other seven teams fighting for Premiership survival.
