Edinburgh LFC v Lochee United LFC - Sunday 29th. April 2007

Lochee headed back across the Forth pointless after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of third placed Edinburgh. On another day, Lochee will feel they could have taken something from the game and despite a spirited battling performance, Lochee were unable to breach the home defence. To make matters worse for Lochee, they dropped back into the relegation zone after Arsenal North beat Hutchison Vale 2-0.

Edinburgh started the brighter of the teams and looked the most likely to score. The Home side dominated the first twenty minutes and only some good defending from Lochee and poor finishing from Edinburgh kept the game goalless. Edinburgh became increasingly frustrated as the half went on as they looked to score the opening goal of the game.

Lochee then came back into the game and long range efforts by Emma Stewart and Kirsty Marr were just off target as Lochee looked to build on some good possession play as the half wore on.

Lochee should have taken the lead on 38 minutes. Some poor defending allowed McCully the ball on the left wing, her cross was misjudged by both central defenders and with Fay Hughes only having the onrushing goalkeeper to beat, she ballooned her effort over the bar to let the home side off.

H/T – Edinburgh 0-0 Lochee

Edinburgh took the lead only 5 minutes into the second half. A shot my an Edinburgh midfielder was parried by McKinlay in the Lochee goal only to McWHINNIE who slotted the ball past the keeper.

Two minutes later and it was 2-0. A long ball forward by the home defence was chased by McWhinnie who as she tried to round the keeper was fouled and a penalty was given. Up stepped PAGLIARULO who slotted the ball past McKinlay into the back of the net.

While Lochee battled back into the game, the home defence stood firm and held on for a 2-0 victory which keeps them third in the table. Lochee will rue defensive mistakes against a weakened Edinburgh side and will feel with a bit of luck may have headed back across the Forth with at least a point.
