Edinburgh LFC v Aberdeen LFC - Sunday 20th. April 2008
Close Call In The Capital
Edinburgh Ladies FC 1 – Aberdeen FC Ladies 0Aberdeen were back to league action on Sunday as they travelled south to play Edinburg Ladies. A puncture on the bus on the way down heralded the start of what was to be a disappointing day for The Dons.Edinburgh came out fighting with a strong wind against them and an early chance which was scrambled clear. Aberdeen attacked from the defence with a diagonal ball to Corsie on the left, she crossed in but Edinburgh keeper Hutcheson held well.
Edinburgh replied as Barry breaking and placing a teasing ball into the box but Chatham collected to snuff the danger. Barry persisted in pressuring Aberdeen but the defence stood firm initially but eventually the attacks earned the home side a penalty as Small brought the striker down in the box. Centre half Pagliarulo stepped up to take the spot kick but was denied the goal with a fine save by Chatham.
Edinburgh went ahead on 17 minutes after launching a ball into the box and a mix up between Chatham and Scott ended with Scott heading the ball in for an own goal.
Aberdeen fought back with some pressure through long balls forward but the attacks broke down as either the wind carried the ball too long or the strikers were caught offside. The Dons had a couple of chances with a S.Scott shot blocked then a second cleared for a corner and Taylor picked out Martin who chased, twisted and turned before forcing a parried corner from the ‘burgh keeper.
Half Time :- Edinburgh Ladies 1 – Aberdeen 0
Edinburgh now had the wind behind them winning a couple of early corners but again with no pay off. The Reds pushed for a spell, Corsie playing up the left for Fitzpatrick who crossed to the waiting Small but the ball went over the goal line.
Twenty minutes in, Wright came on for Taylor in a hope to freshen the attack but the game remained a scrappy affair. Wright caused some problems latching onto a long ball only to have it nipped of her feet by the keeper and then she was pulled down just outside the box by Moultray to deny a chance.
Djahansouzi came on for S.Scott and the Dons had a spell of play around the home penalty box but Edinburgh defended well with Moultray and Young closing down any threatening moves.
Stirling replaced Gauld in the final substitution and was involved quickly getting on the end of a high ball into the box but Hutcheson nipped it off her head killing off the last hope of a point.
ABERDENN :- Allanah Chatham, Susan Murray, Jenni Taylor (Nikki Wright), Lorna Young, Paula Scott, Rachel Small, Rachel Gauld (Melissa Stirling), Chloe Fitzpatrick, Sharon Scott (Neda Djahansouzi), Claire Martin
