The Lord Provost, Lesley Hinds, said:- “It’s about time women’s football was given some recognition. It’s the fastest growing sport in Scotland and these young athletes have fought hard to stay in the game and played hard to be best in their field.”
She added:- “ I’ve been proud to help Hearts winning the Scottish Cup and hope to be part of Hibs celebrations if they win the League Cup next week. Why should Edinburgh’s victorious women’s team not be given the same treatment ? There is not the same infrastructure to support the women’s game and so their individual commitment to the sport and their achievement is extra special.”
SFA official Sheila Begbie also attended to congratulate the team and said :- “The SFA are putting a lot of effort into the women’s game and this sort of public recognition of women footballers gives everyone a boost. The national squad are doing well and we rely on a healthy domestic league to maintain our progress at international level. “

Victor Toon, Edinburgh Ladies club coach, said :- “We are a young club with a young team of some of the most promising players in the country. Our concentration on team work and individual skill training has paid dividends and we will be strong challenges in the Scottish Cup quarter final in two weeks time. We hope to demonstrate with this League Cup win that we intend to maintain a consistent challenge to the more established clubs."
