DUNDEE UNITED v CELTIC - S.W.P.L. - Sunday 19th. October 2008
Dundee
United went down by 2 goals to 1 at Riverside on Sunday to top of the table
Celtic Ladies.
United started the game on top, aided by the strong wind at there back and were
unlucky on a few occasions not to take the lead. A cross by Debbie Johnstone
across the goal just missed the outstretched leg of Laurie Denney.
Celtic responded well with Gemma Clark in the United goal saving well from
Suzanne Malone and Leanne Crichton.
It came as no surprise as United took the lead. Fraser and Denney combined well
down the left wing, Fraser's cross into the box was flicked on by Johnstone to
McCULLEY who tucked a neat effort into the corner of the net despite the Celtic
keepers best efforts. 1-0
Celtic equalised just over 5 minutes later. United lost the ball in midfield and
Crichton ran on and tucked the ball passed Clark to level the scoring. 1-1
Half Time:- United 1 - 1 Celtic
Celtic, aided by the strong wind in the second half started the stronger of the
two teams and Jo Love should have given Celtic the lead as she was clean through
but Clark stood up well forcing Love to shoot wide.
Celtic did take the lead on the hour mark and a stroke of luck involved. Hughes
clearance was blocked and the ball landed at the feet of surprised Celtic
striker Malone who placed the ball into the back of the net to give Celtic the
lead. 1-2
This prompted United's best spell of the game where McCulley, Fraser, Denney and
Harkin all had efforts on goal but none of which really troubled the Celtic
keeper.
Celtic had another effort on goal with 5 minutes remaining, Beattie's header
from a McMillan corner was easily saved by Clark.
Full Time:- United 1 - 2 Celtic
