Boroughmuir 0 - 2 Dundee United

Dundee United moved up to fifth in the table with a comfortable 2-0 win against Boroughmuir at a sunny and warm Meggetland.

United should have had the game wrapped up in the opening 15 minutes and were guilty of missing 4 guilt edge chances.

On 4 minutes, a cross into the box by Harkin saw Young rise but her free header shaved the outside of the post. Only 2 minutes later, another cross from Harkin found Young again but her effort again just went wide of the post. On 10 minutes after Harkin and Fraser combined well down the left, Denney cut inside and unleashed a cracking effort only to be denied by the woodwork and away to safety.

5 minutes later, Boroughmuir had Lynsey Wright to thank for a terrific save and keeping the scores level. Harkin again was the provider and her ball into the box saw McCulley open in the penalty area only to be denied by a great block by Wright.

On 25 minutes United became a little frustrated and let Boroughmuir back into the game. A Corner into the box was cleared by United and the Boroughmuir shot from the edge of the box was flicked on by Harley 6 yards out, only to be denied by a smart stop by Clark in United’s goal.

Boroughmuir were trying to catch United out with the ball over the top but United dealt well with the direct play and Clark’s starting position in United’s goal cut out a lot of balls played through.

United made the breakthrough on 37 minutes with a stroke of luck attached. Denney and Young combined well and ball found Young in the box, her shot was well saved by Wright only for the rebound to strike a defender and roll into the net.

Half Time :- Boroughmuir 0 – 1 Dundee United

The second half was a flat affair with neither team creating many goal scoring opportunities.

United replaced Godfrey with Boag on 65 minutes.

United then had further opportunities to kill the game off, McCulley had an effort saved by Wright and Denney and Gallagher both had efforts that went high over the bar.

United killed the game off on 85 minutes. McCulley and Gallagher combined well down the right wing and found DENNEY and she whipped a curling effort across Wright and into the far corner.

United then replaced McCulley and Gallagher with Blyth and Kelly.

Full Time :- Boroughmuir 0 – 2 Dundee United.

Manager Mary McDonald commented after the victory “I am delighted to be picking up all 3 points again. Again, we were guilty of passing up some good goal scoring opportunities but we are all delighted with the clean sheet at the opposite end of the park. The result was of great importance today and I am delighted we have picked up all 3 points. Our aim at the beginning of the season was to stay in the league and I think the last 3 results have gone a long way in helping us achieve that. We host Aberdeen in a fortnight’s time and again this will be another extremely difficult match.”
