Match Reports :-

ABERDEEN v RAITH ROVERS - S.W.P.L. - Sunday 19th. April 2009

Aberdeen 5 - 0 Raith Rovers

With still a quarter of the season left it was probably too early for talk of relegation battles but in this weeks match against Raith Rovers it was safe to say both teams were desperate to collect all three points.

Aberdeen started well pinning Raith in their own half for the first ten minutes. A couple of corners came to nothing and a Wright cross come shot went wide. A Raith corner was cleared and Aberdeen broke forward and threatened from a Fitzpatrick attempt which was deflected wide.

On 25 minutes the Dons had their best chance to open scoring, Hamill crossing in from near the corner flag to Wright. The ball bobbled in front of goal a couple of yards out but she placed it wide.

Raith started to push more as the half progressed launching balls forward but despite this there was little to trouble stand-in keeper Taylor.

Half Time Aberdeen 0 – Raith Rovers 0

Aberdeen opened the half strongly with an early goal in the first two minutes, Martin crossing in from the left to the back post where SMALL headed in.

Raith won a free kick on the left of the penalty box but the chance was squandered as it was fired wide. Aberdeen attacked again and got their second 15 minutes, FITZPATRICK darting forward, beating the offside trap and finishing low into the net.

Fitzpatrick was the creator of The Reds third goal pouncing on a Raith goal kick and tapped it on for SMALL who finished well for her second and Aberdeen’s third on twenty four minutes.

Stung by the goal Raith pressed back but with little effect with only a sclaffy shot put well wide by Templeton. Raith were not giving up, Bennett and Scott fighting hard in midfield but the Dons duo of Hamill and Fitzpatrick were getting the better of them.

Murray picked up an injury so Aberdeen made a double substitution replacing Murray and Hather with Scott and Gauld reshuffling Andersen to left midfield.

A Raith ball forward went to Templeton who twisted and turned on the edge of the box but Small, now in defence, had her covered and shepherded her away. It was Aberdeen again who scored on 35 minutes as SCOTT sent in a long ball from the left, it bounced high in front of the keeper who came to collect but Hamill’s approach was enough to distract her and it went in.

Spurred on by the fourth goal Raith pushed again but to no avail as the long balls forward were intercepted. Aberdeen were now playing some good football with short passes finding a path forward.

The final goal came with five minutes to go Wright taking the ball off Raith’s Scott in midfield and sending the ball forward where MARTIN collected and finished from 12 yards.
