ABERDEEN v KILMARNOCK - S.W.P.L. - Sunday 10th. May 2009

Aberdeen FC Ladies 0 – FC Kilmarnock 2

Aberdeen faced Ayrshire side Kilmarnock on Sunday in a familiar story of squandered chances for the home side as the visitors headed home with three points.

The home side started well, a cross in from Small slightly long for the strikers and a pass from Hamill to Martin looked tempting but went too close to Kilmarnock keeper Ramsay who collected. Hamill had a speculative lob which was held and a Wright attempt went wide.

Killie worked hard soaking up the early pressure even the strikers tracking back to cover. The Dons missed a sitter, Small’s cross chested down by Wright but her strike deflected off a Killie defender to earn a corner. The scramble from the corner should have seen Aberdeen go ahead with several blocks and another chance was put into the side netting by Djahansouzi.

Killie’s best chance of the half came as McLaughlin sought out Laura Cooper who darted forward put placed her shot wide of the target when it looked easier to score. The Dons defence then weathered a short spell of pressure from the visitors including a couple of free kicks.

Aberdeen attacked again with no success, a header from Taylor sent slightly wide and a shot by Small cleared off the Killie line. The Ayrshire side pressed for a short spell as the home defence absorbed an attack before heading up the park again to miss more chances, Martin’s cross in missed by Small and attempts by Hamill and Wright both hit wide.

Half time Aberdeen 0 – Kilmarnock 0

1. Killie came out of the starting blocks quickly opening the scoring in five minutes. Joanne Cooper got in the box and twisted and turned to get space to play to the back post where MASON ran in unmarked from midfield to head home from close range.

The visitors continued to dominate making it two as McDONALD picked up in midfield. She was given time to pick out her spot before striking a 30 yard shot high into the net.

The Reds replaced Djahansouzi with Andersen as Kilmarnock continued to have the upper hand finding their player well and passing around in midfield. Bradford and Hather came on for Taylor and Fitzpatrick as they changed to a 3-5-2 to counter the Killie dominance in midfield but to little effect, Killie still looking the more likely to score during the final 10 minutes of the game.
