Webmaster AFC Ladies, 8 October 2007
The game started at a brisk pace, both teams creating early chances but it was Edinburgh who went ahead on 9 minutes. A pass from centre midfield split the defence and BARRY ran on to slip it past helpless keeper Chatham. From the kick off Aberdeen charged forward finding Stirling but her wild shot went well past the right hand upright. Chances for Aberdeen, a clearance falling to Murray but her shot went over the bar then the visitor’s Pagliarulo duffed clearance fell to Stirling who also aimed high.Aberdeen equalised on 19 minutes, Corsie winging down the right past Calder before crossing in, MARTIN received at the back post and curled a ball in over Hutcheson’s head.End to end stuff now but the finishing for both teams was poor. Edinburgh went ahead again as McWhinnie crossed in, Young got a head to it but failed to clear, the ball falling to BARRY who netted her second.McWhinnie went on the run again but this time Corsie tracked her down winning the ball off her before sending forward to Stirling who was offside. Corsie again found Wright on the 6 yard line but her turning shot was blocked.Half Time :- Aberdeen 1 – Edinburgh 2Edinburgh pressed from the kick off, an attack up the right saw Barry on the end of a pass but she fired straight at the keeper . At the other end finishing was poor too Wright and Corsie shots both blocked by the keeper. The Reds freshened up their attack, Sharon Scot replacing Wright up front. Martin went on the attack winning the ball off Barry then pinpointing Corsie with a pass. Corsie played on to Stirling who went one on one with the keeper was well blocked.Edinburgh were still providing a threat, a Barry shot blocked again and McLaughlan firing the rebound into the side netting from close range. Then a lucky break for the Dons, a ball into the penalty box saw a tangle between Crosby and Hunter and Barry went into pounce on the loose ball but Chatham did enough to force her to place it wide.Taylor replaced Young as Aberdeen pressed forward, Murray’s pressure forcing Pagliarulo to concede a corner. The corner went long, Taylor picking up at the far side and crossed back in for Sharon Scot who headed the ball just past the post from close range. Murray then threatened again latching onto a Taylor header forward volleying just over the bar.Further missed chances at both ends Edinburgh’s Young unlucky as she latched onto a loose ball from Hunter but fired just past the post and at the other end Stirling’s efforts blocked twice by the keeper and a third hitting the upright.A final let off near the end for the Dons, McWhinnie evading Small and seeking out Barry who once more fired straight at the keeper summing up the nature of the game which could have ended up so different if chances had been taken by both sides.Aberdeen Team :-
