Under 11
Numbers in the under 11s
are on the increase. Coaches Paige and Lewis do
a fantastic job putting them through their
drills and encouraging them during the 4v4
festivals, friendly games and tournament that
they took part in.
It is no surprise
that news of the fun they have is spreading and
more girls want to join Spartans under 11s.
Early in the season it was a long, wet and windy
day for the girls at the Musselburgh tournament
but everyone enjoyed themselves as they played
their part and learned a lot about 7 aside
football in a short period of time.
Although they were
against more experienced players they competed
well and scored some good goals.
Under 13
The under 13s were very
lucky to have a new sponsor George’s Hair Design
who supplied their first team kit.
The squad had a very
good season with all players improving and
developing their skills.
They became a
tougher squad of players and played their way
into the second stage of the league cup and were
unlucky to meet the eventual finalists in their
half of the draw.
They rounded off the season
with a presentation disco where Debbi McCulloch
(Football Development Officer and Spartans FC
Assistant Head Coach) and Diana Barry (Spartans
FC striker
and Scotland International) handed out the
prizes.
Lauren McDonald won
the coaches player of the year, Olivia Aitchison
top scorer, Eartha Cummings players player of
the year and
Under 15
The under 15s continued to
make good progress.
The player increased
experience and knowledge of the game together
with improved skills and determination led to
some very close results.
It was a proud day when
Spartans U15 player Eve Cummings represented
The U15s also had a
presentation disco where awards were made.
Players player of
the year was Juliette Garner, management player
of the year was Ashley Miller, top goal scorer
Laura Van Krieken and most improved player
Louise Irvine.
It was another well
deserved celebration of a good season.
We are now looking forward
to 2010.
Again we will be running
squads at 11, 13 and 15.
Also as we now have
a number of girls who are over age for the U15s
we have entered a third team in the Scottish
Womens Football league where these girls can
continue their Spartans career in a team with
other young adults.
This has formed a
player pathway from under 11 to senior football
for girls and women at Spartans.
It is an exciting time and everyone is putting
in a great amount of effort to ensure the girls
and women’s game goes from strength to strength.
I would like to thank all those who have helped
and supported the teams during the 2009 season
and look forward to seeing you again in 2010.
We are always looking for
help and if any parent/grandparent could give a
